Fabcon Sales Engineer Dave Stanton – Grove City, OH – knows a thing or two about university accreditation.  In particular, the rigorous requirements of the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) accreditation process.

Dave graduated from The Ohio State University in 2008.  At the time his program, Construction Systems Management, was not accredited.  It had for years been hidden in within the Agricultural Systems Management program.  Because there was push from the University’s Industry Advisory Council (IAC) and other stakeholders, program enrollment grew throughout the 2000s.

Concurrently, general contractors and construction managers were moving away from hiring engineers from other accredited programs and moving toward hiring Construction Systems Management graduates.  With the program’s increasing success, it became evident that the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Ohio State needed to pursue the stand-alone ACCE accreditation for Construction Systems Management.

Members of the IAC work closely with students throughout their college education.  “While still a student, I was fortunate to interview with a member of the Industry Advisory Council.  Turner Construction is one of the largest construction management companies in OH and because of their involvement with Ohio State, I was able to start my career with a great company.”

Following six years working on multiple projects and having different titles, Dave realized technical sales was what he really wanted to do.  “Fabcon Precast provides an opportunity to apply my technical construction background and challenges me with relationship management and partnership development.”

“Today, my involvement with The Ohio State University Construction Systems Management Industry Advisory Council allows me to pay it forward.”  For over 3 years members of faculty and the IAC worked tirelessly on the ACCE application requirements and in 2015, The Ohio State University successfully completed the accreditation process through the American Council for Construction Education, earning a five year accreditation for the Construction Systems Management program. “Having an Industry Advisory Council is a requirement for accreditation and our council was pivotal in the process.  Working with the university, the Industry Advisory Council helps develop the future graduates of the program, having an immediate impact on the construction industry of Ohio with the level of quality graduates entering the industry. The Industry Advisory Council is the core bridge between academia and industry.”
