Manufacturing Engineer – Mahanoy City, PA (5.23.13)

Purpose/Scope:

Apply Engineering and Lean knowledge to optimize existing manufacturing processes and ensure the safety, efficiency and quality of new processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Supply Chain to ensure required materials are available to production on time and unique materials are designed for manufacture
  • Work with Scheduling to ensure castbooks are set up to optimize manufacturing goals for safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Write Special Work Authorizations (SWA) and Very Important Process (VIP) documents when necessary to provide clarity to plant operators.
  • Work with other Manufacturing Engineers and Director of Process Improvement to standardize and improve processes throughout Fabcon.
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are robust and repeatable through the use of Standard Work documents and training materials.
  • Determine the root cause of process failure through the use of Statistical Process Control Methods.
  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes using Lean and Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Work with Plant Management to establish continuous improvement goals and plans.
  • Provide support to Estimating, Engineering and Supply Chain regarding manufacturability issues and costs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • Two years of experience in manufacturing
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and spatial relations aptitude
  • Strong working knowledge of spreadsheet, database and word processing programs
  • Ability to lead and make informed decisions in a quick moving environment
  • Must be committed to safety, customer satisfaction, first time quality and efficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with ISO 9001

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to climb up and down moving equipment
