Accounting Manager – Savage, MN 6.24.13

Purpose/Scope:

This position is responsible for maintaining a current and accurate general ledger, organizing the month end/year end close, leading the annual financial statement audit, coordinating information preparation for the tax return and supervising the Project Cost and Production Accounting Functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce and ensure accuracy of monthly financial statements
  • Lead monthly/year end close process, monitor the progress, and track support of all manual journal entries
  • Lead external audit and tax return preparation
  • Coordinate accounting communication with external reporting authorities
  • Maintenance and reconciliation of fixed assets, corporate credit card, prepaid expenses and accrual accounts (making appropriate entries related to these accounts and maintaining proper support)
  • Reconciling bank accounts in a timely manner and keeping bank records in an orderly fashion
  • Perform analysis of key accounts
  • Organize and maintain corporate records of organizational, legal and key financial documents in a confidential manner.  Lead the document retention program for the Accounting department
  • Document, drive and lead continuous improvement of processes
  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
  • Supervise the Project Cost and Production Accounting functions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four year accounting degree
  • Three (3) or more years of experience, with at least two (2) years of public accounting experience
  • Works independently and be self-motivated
  • Works well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Organize information and communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external customers
  • Ability to problem solve

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CMA
  • Background in cost or percent of completion accounting
  • Prior supervision of staff

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs

Work Environment:

  • Work area is an office/plant environment
  • Ability for occasional travel
